Lot 131:
Description
A pair of decorative cast metal figural torcheres, bronze, modelled in the late 19th-century Venetian tradition. Each figure depicts a youthful Blackamoor in ornate Eastern-inspired attire, including a plumed turban and a highly detailed robe with relief-cast brocade patterns and a cinched sash. The sculptures feature a contrasting two-tone finish, with a dark, near-black patina on the skin and a golden-bronze finish on the garments and accessories. Each figure is modeled with one arm raised in a welcoming gesture while the other holds a long, decorative staff topped with a foliate-form candle cup. The figures are standing on integrated rocky terrain bases set atop stepped, gilded plinths. The underside of the bases reveals a hollow-cast construction with internal iron rod armatures.
