Description
A 1937 UK specimen coin set issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the coronation of King George VI. The set contains 15 coins: a Crown, Half Crown, Florin, two Shillings (one English reverse, one Scottish reverse), Sixpence, Threepence, twelve-sided nickel-brass Threepence, bronze Penny, bronze Halfpenny, bronze Farthing, and a silver Maundy set containing 4d, 3d, 2d, and 1d denominations. The obverse of each coin features the bare-headed, left-facing portrait of King George VI designed by Humphrey Paget, surrounded by the Latin inscription GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP. The silver denominations, including the Crown through Sixpence and the Maundy set, are struck in .500 fine silver. The set is presented in its original red leatherette case featuring a gold-tooled crown and G VI R monogram on the lid. The interior lid is lined in cream silk with the Royal Mint crest, and the coins are seated in a black velvet base.
