Lot 209:
Description
A white Parian ware portrait bust depicting the English philosopher John Locke. The subject is portrayed with long, cascading wavy hair and is dressed in late 17th-century attire featuring a high-collared shirt, a cravat, and a classically draped mantle over his shoulders. The bust is mounted on a circular, waisted pedestal socle base. The material is a fine-grained, unglazed bisque porcelain known as Parian ware, intended to simulate carved marble. No maker marks, signatures, or model numbers are visible on the exterior surfaces of the piece.
