Lot 150:
Description
A pair of English sterling silver candlesticks designed in the Queen Anne style. Each stick features a stepped octagonal base that transitions into a knopped and faceted stem, terminating in a flared urn-shaped nozzle with a fixed sconce. The hallmarks are struck in a horizontal row on the edge of the base. These hallmarks include an impressed rectangular cartouche containing the letters TB and S, an impressed shield cartouche containing a side-profile lion passant, an impressed crown symbol, and a lowercase letter i in a shield-shaped cartouche. Based on these marks, the pair is sterling silver, assayed in Sheffield, and dated to 1901. The manufacturer is identified by the readable name Thomas Bradbury and Sons. The bases appear to be weighted, as is typical for this form to provide stability.
Approx: 17cm in height
