Lot 158:
Description
A group of silver-plated serving utensils featuring molded amethyst-colored handles, possibly composed of an early plastic such as celluloid or Bakelite. Each utensil is constructed with a silver-tone metal head joined to the handle by a decorative ribbed ferrule. The collection includes a flat spade-shaped serving spoon, a three-tine serving fork, a perforated sifter spoon, a four-tine scalloped serving fork, a serrated knife with a curved blade, and a two-tine meat or pickle fork. The metal components of the utensils bear small rectangular recessed marks on the shanks. On the three-tine fork, the mark is legible as EPNS, indicating electroplated nickel silver construction. On the remaining pieces, the rectangular marks are present but the individual characters are not clearly legible. The set is housed in a square, hinged presentation case with a cream-colored faux-reptile skin exterior and a gold-tone border. The interior is lined with dark brown velvet-like material on the base and yellow satin-like fabric on the lid, featuring two decorative brass-tone latches.
