Description
A Chinese export black and gold lacquer sewing table of rectangular form with rounded corners. The exterior surfaces are densely decorated in gilt with landscape scenes, pavilions, bridges, and figures within floral and butterfly borders. The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted interior with multiple lidded compartments and open trays, all decorated with miniature gilt landscape and floral motifs. The center features a magenta silk-covered pin cushion. The workbox is supported by a turned pedestal stem and a bridge-style base with two legs joined by a turned stretcher. The feet are carved in the form of stylized dragon heads or lion paws with gilt accents. The pedestal and stretcher are decorated with floral and foliate sprigs.
