Modern Paintings And Pictures
Lot 262:
Description
A trio of original hand-drawn illustrations by Gareth Floyd created for the BBC children television series Jackanory. These works were produced for the story Nothing Ever Happens on Sundays, written by Margaret Greaves and broadcast on October 5, 1976. The illustrations are executed in ink and watercolor on artist board. The primary illustration depicts a scene with five figures: a man in a 17th-century style tall hat and black cloak with a red bow, a silver-haired man in a suit, and three young girls dancing in light tunics. The background features a large tree and a red canopy structure. A second illustration shows the two male figures in profile against a textured, muted background with a fence and a manual garden tool. The third illustration depicts three children—a girl in a blue shirt, a boy in a yellow shirt, and a boy in a white shirt—standing in a green rural landscape with a stone wall, a wooden stile, a black dog, and a dark, stormy sky. The works utilize fluid ink line work with atmospheric watercolor washes, characteristic of Gareth Floyd’s illustrative style for the series.
