Lot 312:
Description
This 19th-century side chair is designed in the Chiavari style, featuring a dark-stained wooden frame with extensive spool-turned detailing. The high backrest contains five vertical turned spindles positioned below a curved top rail accented with carved foliate scrolls at the terminals. The rectangular seat is constructed with a tightly woven rush material. The chair is supported by bobbin-turned front legs and slightly splayed back legs, all of which are connected by a series of similarly turned stretchers. The construction utilizes traditional joinery techniques characteristic of the period.
Condition report:
The chair is in good overall condition. Visible surface wear includes minor scuffs, scratches, and localized loss to the wood finish, particularly on the edges and high points of the turnings, consistent with age and use. The rush seat shows some age-related discoloration and minor fraying but remains structurally intact.
