Description
This Regency-period oval portrait miniature depicts a gentleman with fair, curly hair and blue eyes, dressed in a dark blue coat with gilt buttons over a white cravat. The work is housed in a gold-tone metal pendant frame with a suspension loop and clear glazing. The reverse features an opalescent, engine-turned (guilloche) glass or enamel backing. Adhered to the reverse are two labels: a modern Bonhams auction house sticker and an aged circular paper provenance label identifying the artist as J. T. Barber Beaumont (British, 1774–1841) and noting the piece’s former inclusion in the collection of Ernest Salaman, Esq., with a handwritten date of 1911.
