Lot 132:
Description
This framed textile artwork features a pastoral scene executed in wool needlepoint. The composition depicts two children in a garden or parkland setting. A young girl, wearing a white blouse and rose-colored skirt, is seated on the grass and reaching toward a white goat. Behind her stands a young boy in a blue jacket and dark trousers. The background includes lush greenery, climbing roses, a portion of a brick wall, and tall trees. The work is rendered in a muted color palette typical of vintage wool textiles. The needlepoint is housed in a substantial wooden frame with a convex profile, finished in a dark brown stain, and featuring a gold-toned inner slip or fillet. The piece is protected by glass. The style of the scene is reminiscent of 18th-century French pastoral paintings.
