Lot 154:
Description
A large, circular decorative tray crafted from hand-chased and engraved brass. The ornamentation is arranged in concentric bands radiating from a central medallion featuring a six-pointed star. The first decorative register consists of a continuous band of stylized Arabic calligraphy. The second register contains a repeating series of stylized human heads wearing headdresses, exhibiting Pharaonic or Hathor-influenced iconography characteristic of Egyptian metalwork from the late 19th to early 20th century. Multiple bands of scrolling foliate and floral motifs are interspersed throughout the design. A prominent outer register depicts various animals, including spotted felines and horned hoofed animals like gazelles, within a dense foliate background. The registers are divided by narrow geometric borders of repeating lozenge and diamond patterns. The raised outer rim is finished with a continuous band of repeating leaf motifs. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the surface.
