Lot 192:
Description
A late 19th-century mantel clock in the Louis XV style, manufactured in Paris for the British market. The clock features a case decorated in red Boulle-style marquetry with dark scrolling patterns. The exterior is embellished with ornate gilt-metal ormolu mounts, including a foliate scroll finial, decorative borders around the dial and base, and four scrolled feet. The white enamel dial is protected by a hinged glass bezel and displays black Roman numeral hour markers and Arabic numeral minute markers at fifteen-minute intervals. The dial is inscribed Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Regent Street above the center, London below the center, and Paris Made along the bottom edge. The movement is a mechanical time-and-strike type with two winding arbors on the dial face, characteristic of an 8-day movement.
The clock is currently working in the showroom, but no guarantees are given.
