Lot 193:
Description
An English George III mahogany longcase clock by Henry Lawrence of Bristol. The case features an arched hood with a stepped, molded pediment decorated with a Greek-key fretwork border, supported by fluted columns with brass Corinthian-style capitals and bases. The mahogany trunk is fitted with a long door featuring a shaped arch top and a brass escutcheon, flanked by inset fluted quarter-columns. The clock sits on a rectangular plinth base with stepped molding. The arched brass dial features a boss in the lunette engraved with an eagle and a ribbon scroll inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT. The silvered chapter ring displays Roman numeral hours and Arabic numeral minutes. The matted brass center of the dial includes a subsidiary seconds dial and a square date aperture. The chapter ring is signed by the maker Henry Lawrence and BRISTOL. The clock is powered by an 8-day mechanical movement housed between two brass plates joined by four turned pillars, striking on a bell. Included with the clock are two lead weights and a long pendulum with a brass-faced bob.
We have been advised by the owner that the clock has recently been serviced and it is currently working in our showroom, although no guarantees can be given.
