Lot 24:
Description
This lot features an ornate carriage clock, a fitted travel case, a framed needlework sampler, and a treen wooden roller. The clock case is constructed of black stone, likely slate or marble, featuring incised and gilt-filled scrolling foliate decorations. The top of the case is set with an inset rectangular panel of variegated reddish-pink marble. It is fitted with an ornate cast metal handle and sits on a decorative, footed cast metal base with scrolled and floral motifs. The metal components appear to be brass. The circular white dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and trefoil-style hands. The clock is accompanied by a fitted, red fabric-covered carrying case with a red velvet lining. The framed needlework sampler features a grid of twelve miniature motifs, including a squirrel, a house with a tree, a palm tree, a figure on horseback, a swan, a bird, a floral sprig, and several classical-style vessels or urns. The central motif is a monogrammed S within a wreath. It is housed in a gilt wood frame. Also included is a long, black lacquered cylindrical roller.
