Description

A group of earthenware ceramic items designed by Clarice Cliff, consisting of three pieces in the hand painted Crocus pattern and a monochrome sauce boat. The Crocus pattern items include a pair of small square bowls and a tall sifter or shaker. These pieces feature hand painted clusters of orange, blue, and purple crocus flowers with green leaves on a pale cream Honeyglaze ground. The bowls have scalloped multi lobed rims finished with a thin green painted border. The shaker has a rectangular body with a curved profile on four integrated feet, a yellow glazed domed top with sifting holes, and a textured brown sponged finish at the base. The sauce boat is an oval form with a scrolled handle and a molded band of vertical fluting below the rim, finished in a solid cream colored glaze.

The bases of the bowls bear the printed mark for Royal Staffordshire Pottery, A.J. Wilkinson Ltd, England, with one bowl also featuring the Clarice Cliff script signature. The shaker base bears the Clarice Cliff script signature and retains a red rubber stopper. The sauce boat base is marked with the Clarice Cliff script signature and Newport Pottery Co England, alongside an impressed mark reading REG No 8102.
