Lot 62:
Description
A Chinese porcelain vase of baluster form with a wide flared rim, dating to the late 19th century. The exterior is covered in a pale seafoam-green celadon glaze featuring an intentional ge-type crackle pattern. The body is decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous figurative scene of children playing in a garden, a motif known as boys at play. The scene depicts the figures amidst stylized scholar rocks, clouds, and a low fence. Two applied zoomorphic handles, modeled as Buddhist lions or dragons and finished in underglaze blue, flank the neck. The underside features a white-glazed base with a brown wax export seal. The seal contains a leiwen border and the Chinese characters for jianding (certified) and Shanghai, along with the numeral 4.
