Description
This large porcelain fish bowl, also commonly used as a jardiniere, is decorated in the traditional Chinese blue-and-white aesthetic. The vessel features a bulbous body with a wide, flat top rim. The exterior is ornamented with underglaze blue-painted motifs, centered by a primary register of large, stylized lotus blossoms surrounded by dense scrolling foliate vines. A secondary band of repeating ruyi-head motifs encircles the shoulder, while the top rim is decorated with a continuous Greek key or meander border. The base is finished with a band of stylized lotus petals. The interior is coated in a plain white glaze. This item is characteristic of high-quality decorative porcelain produced in the late 20th century for the export market. No reign marks or maker marks are visible on the surfaces shown.
