Description

A matching pair of Art Nouveau style glazed stoneware vases manufactured by Royal Doulton in Lambeth, England. The vases feature large ovoid bodies with pedestal feet and wide, flared rims. The decoration is hand-applied using tubelining and relief molding, depicting a stylized foliate and floral design. The base and foot are finished in a deep cobalt blue glaze. Central bands feature scrolling leaf-shaped panels in a light celadon green glaze, outlined with white beaded slip. These panels contain dark green leaf motifs and blue floral roundels. The shoulders transition into a mottled tan and brown glaze, capped by a pale olive green rim. The base of each vase bears an impressed circular factory mark with a lion atop a crown and the text Royal Doulton England, alongside an interlocking D device. Both vases are impressed with the model number 6296. One vase features incised script initials GP, and the other features incised script initials BN. Additional small impressed characters, including the letters P and o, are present on the bases.
