Description
An English aneroid wall barometer, the dial marked for retailer Bowden and Sons, Plymouth. The circular case is constructed of carved oak with a dark-stained and polished finish, showcasing a visible wood grain. A metallic bezel, likely chrome or nickel-plated, secures the glass cover over a cream-colored dial. The dial features a scale measuring atmospheric pressure from 28 to 31 inches of mercury, with subdivisions marked in increments of 0.02. Weather indications are printed in stylized decorative script, including Stormy, RAIN, Change, FAIR, and Very Dry. The instrument is equipped with a black indicator needle and a red setting pointer adjusted by a central knob. Dial inscriptions include BOWDEN and SONS / PLYMOUTH below the center pivot, and a decorative scroll at the base marked COMPENSATED / FOR / TEMPERATURE above the text MADE IN GT BRITAIN.
