Description
This pair of large circular earthenware wall chargers was produced by Bretby Art Pottery in Woodville, Derbyshire, England. The chargers feature high-relief central medallions decorated with hand-painted enamels in the barbotine style. The scenes depict a man and woman in traditional Dutch attire walking along a harbor wall, set against a background of sailboats, windmills, and maritime buildings. The reverse of each charger is finished in a matte black glaze and bears impressed factory marks. These marks include the sunburst symbol, the BRETBY name within a rectangular box, the words MADE IN ENGLAND, and the model numbers 2947 and 2948.
