Description
This 19th-century side table features a rectangular top with rounded corners, finished in black lacquer. The surface is decorated with hand-painted Chinoiserie motifs depicting various birds in flight and perched among chrysanthemum-style flowers and foliage, rendered in tones of gold, white, and muted green. The top is supported by a single turned and baluster-shaped pedestal. The base consists of a tripod arrangement of three splayed legs, each featuring a scroll-carved detail at the knee and terminating in small bun feet. The form and construction are characteristic of Victorian-era furniture manufacturing influenced by earlier English Georgian styles.
