Description
This original work by Mark Huskinson (1935-2018) is rendered in watercolor, pen, and ink on paper. The composition is a humorous British courtroom caricature featuring two female legal figures, a barrister and a solicitor, depicted in traditional white wigs and black gowns which they are lifting to reveal white lace lingerie. The scene includes a judge seated at a high bench in the background and other courtroom figures in silhouette to the left. A handwritten double entendre pun runs through the center of the image: “If a lady with briefs is a barrister is a lady without a solicitor?” The artist’s signature and date appear in the lower center within the composition as a handwritten “Mark Huskinson 96”. The work is mounted with a wide cream mat that features a second, larger signature and date in the lower margin reading “Mark Huskinson 2000”. The piece is housed in a polished natural wood frame under glass.
