Description
This framed limited edition offset lithograph, titled When You See Zeros, Fight ’em!, is by artist William S. Phillips and depicts a World War II aerial combat scene. The composition features a U.S. Navy Grumman F4F Wildcat, piloted by Captain Joseph J. Foss, engaging a Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero over Guadalcanal on October 23, 1943. The print is hand-signed in pencil in the lower left margin by the subject, Joe Foss, above the printed text JOSEPH J. FOSS Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. The artist signature, William S. Phillips, is hand-signed in pencil in the lower right margin, where it is also hand-numbered 58/1000. Within the image area at the lower right, there is a printed copyright and signature reading © 1990 William S. Phillips. The work is housed in a triple-mat under glass within a rustic-style wood frame.
