Description
This wireless crystal receiver is housed in a hardwood cabinet featuring finger-jointed construction and a hinged lid. The exterior top surface is fitted with a metal carrying handle and is branded with a circular logo containing the characters BTH. The front of the cabinet displays a circular decal with a blue outer ring and a red center containing the stylized letters BBC.
The interior control panel is composed of a dark material with labeled controls including a TUNER dial with a scale from 0 to 180, two knobs labeled CONDENSER, a CHANGE CRYSTAL switch, and a dual crystal detector unit protected by a yellowed cylindrical cover. Terminals are present for AERIAL, EARTH, and TELEPHONES connections. A metal identification plaque is mounted to the underside of the lid and reads THE BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. LTD. RUGBY ENGLAND TYPE C FORM A NO 19284 WIRELESS CRYSTAL RECEIVER, featuring a central circular BTH logo. The interior lid also contains a large printed paper label titled CRYSTAL RECEIVER INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING, which includes operational diagrams and a table of approximate settings. This passive radio set utilizes a cat-whisker detector system and requires no external power source.
