Lot 278:
Description
A complete set of six hand-colored aquatints from the Bachelor’s Hall series. This sequence of British sporting prints depicts the narrative of a traditional fox hunt. Each print features a central title at the bottom margin reading BACHELORS HALL in capital letters, followed by a plate number. The series includes the standard progression of scenes: Plate 1 (The Meet), Plate 2 (The Find), Plates 3 and 4 (The Chase), Plate 5 (The Death), and Plate 6 (The Dinner). The prints are executed in the aquatint technique, which provides tonal depth, and are hand-colored with watercolors. Each print is housed in a matching black wooden frame with a gilded inner lip and is set behind glass within a cream-colored mat. One print (Plate 6, depicting the dinner scene) is mounted upside down within its frame.
