Description
This late Victorian oval locket features a hand-painted miniature portrait of a young child with curly blond hair and a ruffled white collar, rendered in a delicate stippled style. The upper edge of the portrait is inscribed with the initials and date C.S. 1899. The reverse of the pendant serves as a sentimental keepsake, containing a lock of light-colored hair artistically coiled and secured with fine gold wire over a cream-colored, ribbed ground. The piece is set within a metal frame with a small bail for suspension. An adhesive inventory tag numbered 16 is present on the reverse glass.
