Description
This oval portrait miniature depicts a male figure in 16th-century Renaissance attire, featuring a prominent pleated white ruff collar and a dark doublet with red sleeves. The work is executed in watercolor on ivory or vellum with fine, detailed brushwork. The piece is housed in a simple gilt metal frame with a top hanging loop. The reverse of the miniature includes an aged paper backing with a handwritten ink inscription that reads, Paolo Veronese Painted at last – Bourne Sept 1794 Mary E. P.M. A small blue circular sticker with the number 23 is also present on the back.
