Description
This oil on canvas painting is executed in the Cuzco School style and dates to the 20th century. The work depicts an Angel Arcabucero, or Arquebusier Angel, a subject characteristic of Spanish Colonial art. The winged figure is rendered in ornate seventeenth-century-style garments featuring extensive gold-leaf brocateado detailing and a plumed hat. The figure is shown holding a long-barreled firearm against a muted landscape background. The work is presented in a giltwood frame. A framing label on the reverse identifies the business Cornelius and Andrew Land of Santa Maria, Mallorca, Spain.
