Description
This large floor-standing dinner gong is designed in the Gothic Revival style, characteristic of the late 19th-century Victorian period. The piece features a dark-stained oak frame constructed with architectural elements, including pierced quatrefoil and trefoil motifs. The recessed areas of the quatrefoil cutouts retain a red-pigmented finish. Suspended within the frame is a circular gong composed of brass or bronze, which features a heavily planished and hammered surface texture. The gong is hung by a braided cord and accompanied by a single striker with a turned wooden handle and a padded head. The frame is supported by splayed legs and includes decorative notched detailing along the side supports. No maker marks or signatures were identified on the metal or the wood.
