Lot 28:
Description
This Georgian style circular snuff or patch box is constructed from silver plated copper and brass. The lid is inset with a British copper coin, likely a penny or halfpenny, featuring the profile bust of King George III (r. 1760-1820) facing right. The weathered inscription around the perimeter of the coin reads GEORGIUS III. The piece features a molded, gadrooned profile along the sides and a simple barrel hinge. The interior is finished with a silver wash or plating. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the piece. The exterior exhibits bleeding where the silver plating has worn through to reveal the underlying copper base metal.
