Lot 36:
Description
This lot consists of two antique wooden walking sticks. The first stick is a commemorative piece of folk art, likely carved by a prisoner of war during the Second Boer War. It features a handle carved in the form of a dog head, resembling a hound or dachshund, with a stylized leaf-patterned ear and a raised collar. The shaft is carved in a faux bamboo style with regular nodes and bears an incised three-line inscription reading ST HELENA / 1900 / CHARLES HAWKING. The second stick features a globular knob handle and a shaft decorated with an all-over textured pattern of small circular indentations. Both walking sticks are fitted with metal ferrules at the base.
