Lot 45:
Description
A Tibetan Buddhist thangka scroll painting executed in mineral pigments and gold on primed cloth, mounted on a patterned silk and cotton brocade. The central composition features a large mandala depicting a celestial palace with concentric circles containing various deities and geometric symbols. This central mandala is flanked by four smaller corner mandalas of similar design. The surrounding field is populated with repeating rows of numerous seated Buddhist deities, each positioned on a lotus throne against a blue and green background decorated with stylized floral and cloud motifs. The painting is framed by a narrow green inner border and a wider border of brown and gold silk brocade woven with dragon and floral patterns. The scroll is fitted with wooden rods at the top and bottom. The reverse side features a purple textile border and a tan cloth backing. A dark red and black residue, a degraded wax seal, is present on the top left of the backing cloth, though no legible characters or symbols are distinguishable.
