Description
This set of three circular porcelain plates features scalloped rims and hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration. The central design on each plate is an armorial crest composed of a griffin atop a shield, situated above a pink banner with the Latin motto PERSEVERA ET VINCE. Two of the plates include an additional blue decorative frame around the crest, accented with scrolls and crossed spears at the base. The centers are further decorated with scattered hand-painted floral sprigs in a palette of pink and green. The borders consist of a blue scalloped rim, a repeating red spear-head pattern, and an inner blue zigzag band on the shoulder. The reverse of two plates features hand-painted characters in red reading 林 (Lin) and 森 (Sen), corresponding to Lin Sen (1868-1943), who served as Chairman of the National Government of the Republic of China. One plate features a square seal mark in red containing stylized seal script.
