Description
A large Royal Doulton Lambeth art pottery stoneware vase featuring a tapering cylindrical form with a flared rim and base. The vessel is decorated with elaborate relief-molded and tubelined motifs. A central horizontal band of deep cobalt blue glaze contains scrolling foliate patterns and a prominent stylized flower head rendered in white, purple, and blue glazes with a textured yellow center. The remainder of the body is finished in a variegated mottled glaze of green, cream, and brown tones. The base features several identifying marks including the Royal Doulton lion and crown factory stamp, the incised initials WB for William Baron, and impressed marks including UBW for Ursula Beatrice Webb and the letters PT. Adhered collection labels identify the piece as the work of W. Baron and E. Violet Hayward, with a noted date range of 1921-23. The pattern number 8843 is impressed into the base.
