Description

This lot includes two Victorian-era Doulton Lambeth salt-glazed stoneware pitchers featuring intricate relief-molded and applied decorations. The larger pitcher is of bulbous form with a wide neck and a single loop handle detailed with raised studs. The body is decorated with a repeating pattern of scalloped scales in alternating olive green and dark brown glazes, accented by a horizontal band of applied floral rosettes. The neck displays concentric rings and a band of blue-glazed foliate scrolls. The base of this piece features an impressed circular Doulton Lambeth mark, the incised date 1883, and the incised monogram HEH, which corresponds to the handwritten label identifying the artist as Harriette E. Hibbut. The second, smaller pitcher has an ovoid body with an elongated, tapering neck and a flared blue-glazed rim. Its decoration consists of dense impressed diamond and leaf patterns highlighted in dark blue and brown glazes, further embellished with bands of applied white beaded jewel dots and floral rosettes. The base of the smaller pitcher bears an impressed Doulton mark and the incised initials EB.
