Description

This lot consists of two pieces of English art pottery stoneware produced by the Doulton factories in Lambeth, London, during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The first item is a Doulton Lambeth salt-glazed stoneware pitcher featuring a bulbous body and wide neck. The exterior is finished in a mottled brown glaze with four applied floral rosettes in pale green and blue. The neck is decorated with a wide tan-colored band featuring a relief-molded blue foliate border. The base bears the circular Doulton Lambeth England stamp, incised model number 9593, a stamped hd, and an incised alf signature. The second item is a Royal Doulton glazed stoneware ewer with an ovoid body, pinched spout, and high-looping handle. The central decoration consists of a wide band of incised scrolled circular patterns in a light brown tone, a technique often associated with the Slaters Patent process, bordered by raised white and blue floral sprigs against a mottled cobalt blue ground. The underside of the base features the Royal Doulton England lion mark, incised numbers 8290, and an incised character q. A handwritten label identifies the decorator as Emma Martin, a known Doulton Lambeth artist active during this period.
