Lot 254:
Description
This panoramic landscape is a watercolor on paper depicting a rural farmstead in winter. The composition features a white cottage with adjacent outbuildings situated behind a line of mature, leafless deciduous trees. The foreground is dominated by a large, tilled field with radiating furrows that draw the viewer’s eye toward the central farm buildings. Patches of white appear on the ground, suggesting light snow or frost. The background consists of low, rolling hills under a heavy, overcast grey sky rendered with atmospheric wet-into-wet washes. The work is signed in reddish-brown paint at the lower right corner followed by the date 79.
