Lot 266:
Description
A Winchcombe Pottery oval earthenware trough or bread boat, featuring a hand-pinched crenulated rim. The vessel is constructed from a coarse, reddish-orange clay body with visible mineral inclusions. The interior is finished in a high-gloss lead-type glaze in mottled shades of forest green and dark teal. The decoration consists of slip-trailed motifs in a contrasting buff-colored clay, depicting stylized plant forms, including one central stem containing four distinct pod-like roundels. Small circular green glaze accents are applied over the slip decoration. The exterior and underside remain unglazed, showing the natural matte texture of the fired clay. The underside features a single impressed circular mark containing the Winchcombe Pottery mark.
